San Diego Parks Foundation Endorses Outdoor For All Act

On August 11, 2023, The Board of the San Diego Parks Foundation voted unanimously to endorse the Outdoor For All Act sponsored by United States Senator for California Alex Padilla. The Board found the Act to be consistent with our Mission and Values. Our Mission is to provide resources to the entire city of San Diego Park system with an emphasis on Communities of Concern. This Act will provide funds through a grant process to underserved communities.

As our cities grow and the effects of climate change intensify, the Outdoors For All Act would allow for equitable access to the benefits of local parks—from job creation to shade and tree cover, to clean air.

The Outdoors for All Act seeks to address the lack of adequate recreation space in underserved communities. Specifically, the bill will codify and establish a dedicated source of funding for the existing Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program of the National Park Service. Funds must be used for projects to (1) acquire land and water for parks and other outdoor recreation purposes in qualifying areas, and (2) develop new or renovate existing outdoor recreation facilities that provide outdoor recreation opportunities to the public in qualifying areas.
