San Diego Parks Foundation Celebrates Grand Re-Opening of Revitalized Outdoor Court in Southcrest

San Diego, California — The San Diego Parks Foundation (SDPF), in partnership with the City of San Diego, DICK’S Sporting Goods, and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), is proud to announce the grand reopening of the newly resurfaced court in the Southcrest community.

After seven years of being unusable and unsafe, the court has been completely transformed into a dynamic, multi-use recreation space. It can now host basketball, pickleball, and futsal, providing new opportunities for play, fitness, and community engagement. In addition to resurfacing the court, the project included upgraded lighting, new backboards, an improved walkway, and enhancements to the adjacent playground, turning a long-neglected area into a vibrant hub for families and residents of all ages.

In less than a year, the San Diego Parks Foundation and its partners were able to completely revitalize the Southcrest outdoor court. Special thanks go to CH Court Tech, which provided in-kind services and led the court’s transformation, fully resurfacing and restoring the basketball court to professional-quality standards.

“This project represents the power of partnership and community investment,” said Leona Sublett, CEO of the San Diego Parks Foundation. “The transformation of this court is truly a collaboration, a testament to what can happen when the public, private, and nonprofit sectors come together for the good of our neighborhoods. We are deeply grateful to our donors, partners, and CH Court Tech for making this possible.”

The court’s reopening marks a significant milestone for the park, which has served Southcrest families since 1964. The revitalized space will support a variety of community uses, from youth sports programs and fitness activities to neighborhood gatherings and outdoor events, helping to strengthen community ties and promote healthy, active living. “

We appreciate our partnership with the San Diego Parks Foundation and the work they do to invest in our park system,” said Andy Field, Director of the Parks and Recreation Department. “With the Foundation’s support, we are able to provide improved amenities for the Southcrest community to enjoy, play and get outside.”
