Parks are ESSENTIAL.
At the center of it all is a powerful youth initiative — the Park Ambassador Program. These young leaders — many of whom grew up in the same neighborhoods they now serve — are helping to run our Rec Centers, lead Parks After Dark and all year- round activities, and act as positive role models for younger kids.

Parks are COMMUNITY.
It’s a remarkable, full-circle system: a child finds support at their neighborhood Parks and Rec Center, becomes a volunteer, grows into a leader, and gives back to the very community that shaped them.

But today, this circle of transformation is in jeopardy.

San Diego is facing a major budget crisis, and funding for Parks and Recreation, including after-school programs and youth employment, is on the chopping block. Without urgent action, we may lose the programs our communities rely on the most.
