This spring, we’re not just planting trees — we’re planting futures. For thousands of children in San Diego’s underserved neighborhoods, local Parks and Recreation Centers are so much more than green spaces. They’re lifelines — places to play, learn, get help with homework, be mentored, and feel safe.
This summer, we’re not just planting trees — we’re planting futures.
In San Diego’s underserved neighborhoods, Parks and Recreation Centers are lifelines. They’re safe spaces to play, learn, get help with homework, and connect with mentors who care.
At the heart of it all is our Park Ambassador Program — a youth leadership initiative where teens and young adults, many of whom grew up in these same neighborhoods, now serve as role models and mentors. They help run Parks & Rec Centers, lead programs, and give back to the communities that shaped them.
But this powerful circle of transformation is at risk.
San Diego is facing a significant budget crisis — and funding for Parks and Recreation, including youth employment, is in jeopardy. Without urgent action, life-changing programs like Park Ambassadors could disappear.
